Candidate of Science,
Program coordinator,
Director of the Phystech School of Biological and Medical Physics
This program is designed for undergraduate students studying in the direction of biotechnology. This program aims to provide students the necessary knowledge in the natural sciences, as well as to give specialized knowledge in the fields of chemistry, biology, genetics, bioinformatics and biophysics. In the studying process students choose the most interesting direction for them: bioinformatics, biophysics, molecular biology, genetics etc. The task of the program is to give the most complete representations of these areas for the further specialization of students, as well as provide the opportunity for an in-depth study of selected specialties.
Alexander Melerzanov, MD, PhD, Deputy Director for Postgraduate Education and International Cooperation, about the program
Biomedical engineering is a program that combines the foundations of physical and mathematical sciences with special biological and medical knowledge. This feature gives graduates an advantage over other candidates for future employers. Our graduates work in science and in many commercial enterprises. During their own studies our students are involved in research work with our partners: BostonGene, ChemRAR, the Engelhardt Institute of Molecular Biology, RAS; the Rogachev National Research Center of Pediatric Hematology, Oncology and Immunology; the Institute of Bioorganic Chemistry, RAS; the Scientific Research Institute of Physical-Chemical Medicine; the Sklifosovsky Research Institute of Emergency Care; the Vavilov Institute of General Genetics, RAS, RVC etc. Our educational program sends students to leading international and Russian research centers and institutes, some of which participated in the creation of the program. Our students go through many laboratory practices and project sessions, which gives them invaluable practical skills. Starting from the first year, they can participate in various projects both in laboratory research and in commercial projects of partners and student startups. Our graduates work in pharmaceutical and medical companies, in laboratories, in various fields from genetics, bioinformatics to building devices.
